The deal between you and us.

Who these terms are with

See the City is operated by Summit Technology Group LLC, a Colorado limited liability company. In the rest of this page “we” and “us” mean that company, and “you” means the person using the app. A person reads mark@stgengineer.com.

1. Who can use it

You need to be at least 13. Some routes are marked 21+ because they are built around bars; the age you enter filters those out, but it is not an ID check and it is not a substitute for the law where you are. If you are under the drinking age, the 21+ routes are not for you regardless of what the app shows.

2. Your account

An account is created automatically from a random identifier on your phone — you do not have to sign up. You may add an email and password so the account follows you to another device. Keep that password to yourself; anything done from your account is treated as done by you.

Because a guest account lives on one device, losing the device means losing the account. If your routes matter to you, link an email.

3. What you make stays yours

Routes, notes, reviews and photos you create belong to you. By publishing them you give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, display and distribute them inside the app and to show them on our website — the permission we need to run the service, and nothing beyond it. It ends when you delete the content, subject to the anonymised-history note in our Privacy Policy.

We will not sell your routes to anyone, and we will not put your name on something you did not write.

4. What not to post

• Anything illegal, or a route whose point is to do something illegal
• Someone else’s copyrighted photos or writing
• A person’s home, workplace or private details as a stop
• Photos of identifiable people who have not agreed to it
• Harassment, hate, or content aimed at a specific person
• Fake venues, fake reviews, or a route built to advertise something without saying so
• Anything that puts a walker in danger — trespass, an unlit underpass at 2am, a level crossing

We can remove content and close accounts over any of the above. We would much rather email you about it first, and usually will.

5. Walking safely — the important one

Routes in See the City are written by people who walked them, not surveyed by us. We do not inspect stops, verify opening hours, or check that a street is a sensible place to be at night. A route can be out of date the week after it is written.

You are responsible for your own safety. Watch traffic. Do not walk into a road reading your phone. Mind the weather and your footwear. If a street feels wrong, leave it — no route is worth it, and skipping a stop is a button in the app precisely because plans should bend.

Several routes involve alcohol. Drink within your limits, do not drive, and look after whoever you brought. Nothing in this app is an encouragement to drink more than you meant to.

6. Venue deals

Some stops carry an offer posted by the venue itself. When you claim one, the app issues you a code. Understand what that is and is not:

• The offer is made by the venue, and it is the venue that honours it
• Some offers require you to check in at the stop first
• Offers have limits and expiry dates the venue sets, and can be withdrawn
• A code has no cash value and cannot be sold or transferred

If a venue does not honour a code, tell us and we will take it up with them or remove the offer. But we cannot make a bar pour a beer, and we do not refund one.

Trying to game the system — claiming codes you do not intend to use, automating claims, or checking in somewhere you are not — will lose you the account.

7. Free, ads, and Plus

The app is free. It is currently supported by a banner ad on a couple of screens.

A paid tier called Plus exists in the app as a description of what it will include. It is not on sale, and nothing in the app can currently take your money. If that changes, the subscription will be sold through the App Store or Google Play, which means they handle billing, renewals, cancellation and refunds under their own terms. Cancel through your store account, not through us — we cannot cancel it for you.

8. Beta

See the City has not launched. Right now it covers one district of one city. Features described on our website or visible in the app may change, break, or be removed, and test data may be reset without warning. Do not rely on it for anything that matters, and keep your own copy of anything you would be sad to lose.

9. What we are not responsible for

The service is provided as it is, without warranties. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for what happens on a walk, for a stop that was closed, for an offer a venue did not honour, for content another user wrote, or for data lost during the beta.

None of this limits liability that cannot be limited by law — including for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud. If you are a consumer, your statutory rights stand regardless of anything written here.

10. Ending it

You can stop using the app whenever you like, and ask us to delete your account by writing to mark@stgengineer.com. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, or if we shut the service down — in which case we will give you notice and a way to take your routes with you.

11. Changes, and the law that applies

We may update these terms. The date at the top changes when we do, and anything significant will be said in the app rather than left here for you to discover. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept it.

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Colorado, USA, and the courts there have jurisdiction — except where the law of the country you live in gives you the right to bring a claim locally, which it may.
